Craigslist Limiting HTML

By

Since I think just about everyone uses craigslists to market their listing I was wondering what everyone thought of Craigslist's proposal regarding html?

Basically what they are saying is:
"Unfortunately, much of the HTML in postings these days is used by spammers for harmful purposes, such as cloaking spam links, embedding false keywords, and overriding the flagging system."

Interestingly there are a number of comments on the forum aimed directly at the postlets ads. I think postlets is a great service but, not to fault postlets but, I have to agree many have abused the fact that postlets ads are aren't seen as duplicate content, resulting in many abusing the rules and overposting.

What are your thoughts?

I don't mind the Postlets ads.  We use it all the time.  And you have to change them each time you repost it.  But I love Craig's List, and can't beat the price!  So if they don't allow it anymore, I'm fine with that as well.

Hmm Jackie I have not heard about this. I would say this would be disappointing but I would still be able to get the information across to potential buyers.

I think the jerks who choose not to follow the rules should be barred from using the site. It will change when it is enforced.

I think there are other ways of punishing the spammers without punishing the rest of us.

Craiglist is an invaluable service here in the Bay Area--home of Craigslist.  It is actually very very simple to do your own basic HTML coding...even easier than Postlets.  It just requires learning a little HTML, and a little HTML can go a long way with something like Craigslist.

Mary Smartt - My thoughts exactly - basic HTML can go a long way - I said as much on the craigslist forum  -  and got a few surprisingly rude responses (actually not so surprising if you've spent anytime on a forums)

I think many agents either don't want to have to learn html, haven't the time, or they are more comfortable using postlets easy to submit forms.

Regarding postlets -  If craigslist does start limiting HTML then postlets ads would simply be "stripped out at posting time"
