Katy Summer Tailgate plus A Taste of Katy
The Historic City of Katy is hosting a Katy Summer Tailgate with a Taste of Katy on Friday August 14, 2015 on 1 ST. Street in Old Katy. All Katy residents are invited for an end of summer bash. This event is part of Operation Backpack which is an eleven year old Houston-wide YMCA program. The idea is to collect and distribute backpacks loaded with school supplies to children who are in need of assistance. I think this is a great program and there are many kids even here in Katy let alone in Houston who need this type of help.
This event will feature food from approximately 15 local restaurants who will be giving out food tasting and serving meals. There will be live music being performed by the 1980’s rock band “Texas Twisters”. A buffalo wing cook off is also on the schedule plus several vendor booths. Inflatables and a playing turf will be part of the Kids Zone.
Attendees entrance fee is either school supplies or a backpack which will benefit the previously mentioned Operation Backpack. I suspect cash donations will also be gladly accepted.
Some of the participating groups include No-label Brewing, The City of Katy and Matt Schomburg State farm Insurance. A big shout to all of these groups for making this event possible.
I believe this is a great way for people to pay it forward by helping out these kids before school starts.
