I read a lot of books! About one every 10 days, best of all, they are all nonfiction. Not many people know this about me, but I can not read fiction books. Even going back to High School, I would ditch the required reading and instead immerse myself in business books.
Good news about this is, I learn a lot from other successful people. So I am going to start reviewing my books and recommend them for either Real Estate, General Business or Marketing.
If you watch the show Million Dollar Listing New York, you have heard of Fredrik Eklund. I will be the first to admit, the show does not represent the average real estate agent career or how the business works. In fact I believe a lot of agents get a glamorous idea of our business, learn it is not like on the show, and are out within the first year.
The Sell however, is a good read for business.
The main lesson is to be yourself in business, to attract more business.
My absolute favorite part was towards the end about the concept of Pronoia, the opposite of paranoia. You look at the world as if there is a conspiracy to help you succeed. Loved that concept and it does make you look at the world differently. Even if only for a little bit.
If you want to learn more about the concept of Pronoia, I wrote a blog yesterday about it here.
The book also has helpful tips on social media strategy (to bad not all of us have over 400,000 twitter followers to sell our listing with one instagram post).
The last part of the book, talks about something any business needs. Exposure. Some tips on getting in the media, and how to network and market for free.
Anyone that started with no family, no friends, and no network in a city to become the number sales team has something to teach. This book is a quick read, and worth it.
