Kentlands Photowalk: Thistle IMG 4602
Kentlands, in zip code 20878, is a planned neo-traditional community within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. Kentlands is a favorite neighborhood for families moving to the Metro Area of the District of Columbia.
When you take photowalks through Kentlands, you need to pay close attention if you do not want to miss some of the smaller gifts of nature like the thistle in this photograph.
Subhash Sharma This nice looking thistle belongs to a group of flowering plants characterized by leaves with sharp prickles on the margins. While most farmers and gardener consider this as an unwanted weed, thistle has a number of useful properties. Firstly it guards the adjoining plants against the herbivores and in earlier days was used as a remedy for headaches, plague, canker sores, vertigo, and jaundice. Thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland, as well as the emblem of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend who lives in Ireland. He frequently comments on my photographs.
