More companies mean more Reno jobs are coming soon. Tesla may not have performed exactly how we hoped they would. However, just having the name Tesla here has meant that other companies have taken our Reno community into serious consideration for their business dealings. Newcomer Jet.com is the latest company promising great things for the Reno-Sparks area.
More Companies Mean More Reno Jobs
Big names like Tesla, SUPERNAP, Apple, Zulily and Amazon are just a few of the high tech and e-commerce industries that have set up shop in the Reno area. This is what has helped Reno dig itself out of the financial hole that was created by the last recession. In fact, Reno was one of the areas hardest hit by the recession. More companies mean more Reno jobs. The latest e-commerce company to make Reno its home is Jet.com.
Jet.com was created by e-commerce veteran Marc Lore. Marc initially founded 1800DIAPERS back in 2005. That eventually became Diapers.com as part of the bigger Quidsi corporation. Amazon purchased Quidsi in 2011 for over a half a million dollars. Mr. Lore worked for Amazon for a couple of years before he went out on his own. His brain child, Jet.com, came to fruition in 2015. It purports to take combine the variety of online shopping that Amazon.com offers with wholesale shopping given by clubs such as Sams Club and Costco with a little something extra.
That's great. But what does it mean for Reno? Approximately 500 new jobs, that's what it means! They recently announced that they would be opening a brand new distribution center at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. If that facility sounds familiar, it is because that is also where the Tesla gigafactory is located.
