Hey Bob & Ben - It's Not Too Late to Fix Active Rain Groups !
Hello Michael ... great post and I couldn't have said this better!
I have approx 20 Groups at the ActiveRain network and I personally moderate them all along, even the group Addicted to Active Rain ...
Here is what I have been seeing when it comes to Groups at ActiveRain!
The ActiveRain network started bringing in their own groups with the ActiveRain logo attached.
There long term plan will be to slowly take over the groups so they have the control vs the members.
I noticed this around 3 years ago and their plan seems to be working

What's Wrong ?
Topical groups are dying or have been eliminated . Because of this AR has lost some
of the spirit of community it gains when it's members experience Commonality !
What's Broken ?
1. The Group Search Feature has never been user friendly and often results in a wild
goose chase . Frustrating time wasted !
2. Group Moderators have left AR and all oversight has been abandoned .
3. Most Groups have veered completely off topic . Many have had their congruency
completely destroyed and have become a dumping ground for MLS Listings !
4. AR Newbies are either totally unaware of the presence of AR Groups or have
been interested in a Group Topic only to view toxic MLS listings dumped there instead !
5. AR Bloggers are losing out on additional readership opportunities .
How to Fix This ?
1. Make it easy to replace inactive Moderators . Create a list of vacancies . Any Moderator
who has less than 2,000 AR Points in the last 6 months , has abandoned the position.
2. A Moderator must be Notified every time a new post is sent to their Group . This is
crucial to stop the flow of unwanted toxic posts !
3. A post FEATURED by a Group should have only a 30 day shelf life . This will cause an
influx of new & latest of info type of posts !
4. A Moderator needs to be Notified when a new member joins the Group !
5. An AR Group should be featured Daily on the website and emails .
6. Every class and topic taught by AR University ought to have a Group of it's own !
These are just some of my thoughts . I'm sure our Membership could give more
additional insights . Unfortunately many recent members have been soured on what
has been passing as Groups. But the earlier members remember the impact and
sense of belonging a well run Group can provide . Bob & Ben, it's not to late to
SAVE ACTIVE RAIN GROUPS !
