Let Go My Ego!
In Real Estate, as well as other sales oriented professions, are driven by goals, awards and recognition in many ways. There are top sales awards, locally, regionally and even nationally. We are motivated by what we can achieve. Let's face it. Our Egos love the attention, which make us proud, causing us to boast and strut around, telling everyone, that we are the best, in whatever the award says. We even include it on our ads and mailings.
When we try to get new business, we have a resume that shows our potential clients, all our achievements and awards indicating that they need to choose us, because we are the best. With all that, the Buyers and Sellers look at our awards, letters of recognition, and the designations after our names, making decisions on who is the best agent for them.
There is nothing about many of these awards, that tell the client how they will be treated. Some agents may have great sales figures, but do not have a good relationship with their clients. I was informed by a client that their previous agent was deemed the best in the area, but did not keep their client informed, did not return calls and even was absent at the closing. It was all about the numbers and the commission check.
There's nothing wrong with having an Ego, but we also have a client. In my business, the client comes first and if I receive credit, there's nothing wrong with getting an ego. Just keep it in perspective, with the client being the real source of our business.
Do you let your Ego get in the way of your clients?
