They say that music soothes the savage beast. Well there are no more soothing sounds than the ones emanating from the 2016 Reno Jazz Festival. With concerts in the evening and clinics during the day, jazz enthusiasts will be thoroughly entertained and educated. Some of the future's best and brightest are sure to emerge from this year's festival. You can say you "heard them when..."

For more than 50 years, UNR's Jazz Festival has highlighted the most talented current and future jazz superstars. The 2016 Reno Jazz Festival kicks off with a special performance by Lage Lund and The Collective at the Nightingale Concert Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday evening. General admission is $22, with senior and student tickets available for $17 and $12 respectively. Snarky Puppy, the UNR Jazz Lab Big Band, will perform their set at 7:30pm on Friday at the Lawlor Events Center. Tickets for their concert are just $28 for general admission, $24 for seniors, $18 for students and $5 for UNR students. Saturday evening's performance at the Lawlor Events Center will highlight the winners of the Jazz Festival's All-Star competition as well as other noted performers throughout the weekend. Awards will be presented at the end of the night. Tickets for the showcase will be $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors and $11 for students.
Tickets for the 2016 Reno Jazz Festival can be purchased online at the Reno Jazz Festival ticket website. You can also call the box office at (800) 325-7328 if you would prefer. There are several different types of ticket passes available. A blue pass will get you into the Friday competitions, clinics and evening Snarky Puppy concert for $22. A green pass will get you into Saturday's competitions, clinics and evening festival showcase for $19. A silver Festival Pass gives you access to both days' events for $27. The ultimate ticket is a Red Jazz Fan package ($60 general admission/$50 senior) that grants access to everything the Festival Pass offers, preferred seating to all concerts and seats at the Lage Lund and the Collective evening concert on Thursday evening. You can also purchase a single day pass for $15 but those are only available at the festival on the day you attend.
