Shipshewana, Indiana is a Flea Market Paradise!
Shipshewana, Indiana is located just 23 miles east of Elkhart and 7 miles east of Middlebury, both in Elkhart County. Shipshewana is just across the county line in LaGrange County. Just a small town with 677 residents (2014), it is the home of the largest Flea Market in the Midwest, attracting people from all over the United States and Canada. Nearly a half a million visitors come to Shipshewana yearly, as they participate in the Auctions, Buying, Selling and visiting the Historic downtown shops.
The Shipshewana Flea Market started in 1922, as a home based business and now has approximately 900 vendors, covering 100 acres. You can find almost anything from fresh vegetables to handcrafted furniture and everything in between.
The Flea Market season for 2016 ....
Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 am to 5 pm, May 3rd through October 1st.
They do have extended hours on Holiday weeks. (Open rain or shine)
Memorial Day - May 30 - June 1, from 8 am to 5 pm
4th of July - through July 6, from 8 am to 5 pm
Labor Day - September 5 - 7, 8 am to 5 pm
They also have a Fall Extravaganza from September 27 to October 1, 2016, from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
Shipshewana is also home to the Menno-HOF Amish and Mennonite museum, which showcases the history of the Amish and Mennonite peoples.
Other attracions in Shipshewana are the Blue Gate Restaurant, Bakery and Blue Gate Theater. Don't forget the carriage rides.
The town has easy access from US 20 and Interstate I-80/90 in Indiana.
