Let's Stop Perpetuating the Myths

By
Real Estate Agent

There are few things more annoying than reading mostly fictitious internet claims or memes which show up on Facebook and other social media during this contentious campaign season.  If folks would only run stories through a fact checking website for authenticity!  Perpetuating hoaxes and myths by “sharing” or reposting on social media without checking for accuracy, certainly doesn’t enhance one’s credibility!

I regularly use www.factcheck.org or www.snopes.com to determine validity.

What follows below are several internet myths which found their way into my email account and Facebook these past few days:

(1)  Donald Trump Admits he was a Hillary Plant all along. This story is absolutely FALSE according to Snopes.  Here’s the scoop: http://www.snopes.com/donald-trump-twitter-plant-clinton

(2)  Oprah Endorses Trump.  Snopes says this one is fictious, and they say it is FALSE.  Here’s the link: http://www.snopes.com/oprah-endorsed-donald-trump-false

(3)  Horse Suffers Broken Leg From Protesters at Trump Rally.  This story has been deemed FALSE by www.snopes.com.  Here is a link to what they say: http://www.snopes.com/protesters-break-horses-leg

(4)  Chobani Yogurt CEO Days He’s Going to Choke America with Muslims.  This internet story is MOSTLY FALSE according to Snopes.  The full story can be read at: http://www.snopes.com/chobani-ceo-importing-300-muslim-refugees-per-month

(5)  'American Sniper' Chris Kyle Did Not Shoot dozens of Hurricane Katrina Looters, Kill Two Attempted Carjackers, and Punch Jesse Ventura in the Face.  The claim that he did has been debunked as MOSTLY FALSE by Snopes.  Here’s the scoop: http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/kyleclaims.asp

(6)  Donald Trump Took $150,000 From the 9/11 Small Business Fund.  MOSTLY FALSE says Snopes in regard to this claim.  Click here for the story: http://www.snopes.com/donald-trump-took-150k-from-the-911-small-business-fund

(7)  Hillary Clinton Met with Osama Bin Laden in 2008 and Posed for Photograph. Snopes says this one is FALSE.  The picture accompanying the original story was apparently part of a Photoshop contest held in 2007 (Yep folks, this one is still circulating the internet.) Here's the link: http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/hillarybinladen.asp

REMEMBER FOLKS, THERE IS FAR LESS TRUTH, THAN THERE ARE AGENDAS DURING THIS CAMPAIGN SEASON!

Tammy Lankford, - Yeah, there was even an internet hoax that said snopes.com was owned by George Soros.  It turned out to be just another of those rumors.  Here's what an another website, independent of Snopes had to say: http://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/28874/is-snopes-com-funded-by-george-soros .

Good morning Myrl. I use Snopes all the time. Some things are obviously crack pot but others tempt the truth.

I am to the point where I don't believe anything anymore.  Everyone has an agenda.

Sheila Anderson - I sometimes think they belong in The Onion.

Chris Ann Cleland - I attribute some of it to the dark money that is in politics now.  If they can't win with the truth, they will facilitate a lie.  It's all about the agenda, as you say!

Hi Myrl,

With so much emphasis on technology and politics, there is so many people talking way too much about way too many things about which they know way too little about.

I think the noise level in our country has increased to intolerable levels and my new words that should be the rule of the day are " Think and remain silent less the best of thoughts just fall out of one's mouth to the floor". 🙃

I am so sick of the lies and erroneous information powering through our TV's, the radio, Internet, and word of mouth. This is a great post and reminder that not everything you hear is true. In many ways, I wish people would go back to the Library and do real research before becoming so gullible.

Thanks for this great and informative post!
