We are fortunate in our real estate practice...David has a background in construction...and I have in marketing and some interior decorating. We always say:
"David will tell you if the walls are straight and Sally will tell you what color to paint them."
David's background is especially helpful when we preview properties...for both Sellers and Buyers as well as during the inspection. There are agents with less background who have no idea what remedies may work for what problems or what kinds of costs are associated with repairs and as a result sometimes propose "monster dollar amendments" without the benefit of having any background in the trades...experience in construction, remodeling or repair. Agents and Buyers don't always research what they are told by an inspector...which fix is best...which is more than enough or less than adequate. They don't know what they don't know but that doesn't stop them from going full speed ahead with the only direction they know.....sometimes not open to learning there is more than one way to....do most things.
What we DO know is that the tradespeople who have had decades of successful experience are the ones we depend on for their opinions...the quality of their work...and trust them to do what they do best.
Be your own detective...rely on the experts...not the neighbor, your inlaws, or anyone else who is not successfully experienced in their chosen field. The same is true for Agents..Know what you don't know....and be open to learning from people who DO know.
If you or anyone else you know wants Realtors who DO know in southeastern Wisconsin....call the Hansons...we are honored to be of service.
