WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE HEAR THE “F” WORD
IN CONNECTICUT?
When the “F” word is uttered, we know the “S” word will follow before too long...
We heard it yesterday, from the weatherman, for the first time this season: “FROST”. Once we hear that, we know it’s adios summer, although our Indian summers can still be warm and stunning with color and beauty.
We also start imagining the next event, “SNOW” and start getting ready for it.
So what do we do in Connecticut when we hear the “F” word? We stack wood. Today was a perfect day for that. The morning was crisp and chilly at 44 degrees, warmed up to about a nice, sunny 65, perfect for working outside in protective long pants and long sleeve shirts.
Having firewood means being able to enjoy cozy evenings by the fireplace. It’s pleasant, tranquil and can be romantic. If you happen to have a wood burning insert, the heat from the fireplace will also help warm the home and thus help lower the heating bill.
Providing for your own firewood is a process for someone who enjoys doing it: first you cut down the dead trees in your backyard (without hurting yourself or any part of the property), then you saw the trunk into logs, then you split the wood, let it dry, transport it to your wood pile and have a stacking “party” with your family.
Or, you can just buy the firewood almost anywhere: local nursery, hardware store or even at the supermarket. That might be easier, quicker and safer.
However you get your wood, it’s always a pleasure to enjoy its glow and warmth as it burns in your fireplace.
With our firewood stacks re-supplied, we no longer fear the “F” word in Connecticut.
Happy fall season!
Come visit Connecticut and fall in love! It’s a great time to buy a weekend/vacation home here.
