My Number One Job for Today

I am working with a Protege who is doing fantastic and is off to a quick start. I asked her what her job is for today and she gave me a list of things she has to do for this listing and that listing, this offer, this loan that is working. She has a lot of clerical required things to do but I asked what is your most important job and she started sorting the list. I said, "No." "Your most important job is to market and find another deal."

 
I remember the Ford commercials, "Quality is Job One" and the Military commercial, "Be all that you can be." For commissioned sales people the mantra for success is "Always be Marketing". It does not matter if you have 20 transactions in your pipeline. Always be marketing. Always approach each day determined to win another customer. 
 
This is the difference between those who achieve at a low level and those who achieve at a high level. The low level achievers are satisfied with low level success and the high level achievers cannot emotionally handle not breaking their own sales records. To to that they have to always be marketing and they are always learning and looking for ways to render better service and expedite processes. That is what the adage 'give the job to a busy person' is true. Busy people, excited people, and people who choose to succeed at a high level find a way to get the job done. 
 
I love commissioned sales because every day I start with a blank page and I know the page is blank. Therefore, I market and market and market everyday.
