I have found a new favorite food in Bethesda - rolled Thai ice cream at Class 520, located at 4941 Elm Street, close to the Dunkin Donut shop and Fancy Cakes by Leslie.
Class 520 serves “Thai-inspired” (also known as Teriyaki!) ice cream made by pouring a milk-based liquid onto an extremely cold, flat metal circle. The liquid is then spread out in a thin layer by one of the servers as you watch. Once the ice cream freezes, it is scraped into quarter-sized rolls and place in a bowl. You get to choose a topping and then enjoy!
The shop offers several ice cream options, all for $7.70, including mango- and strawberry-based Mad Mango and coffee-flavored Morning Latte. That was the one that we shared last week. Honestly, I am looking forward to going back again soon. The Morning Latte ice cream was delicious!
In addition to the set flavors, customers can chose build-your-own options and select from a variety of toppings such as marshmallows, sprinkles and fruits.
Class 520 also serves milk teas and fruit teas for $4.95 each, as well as green milk teas and other specialty drinks. It has bar-style seating with about 15 chairs, although I suspect that on a Saturday evening it will be too popular for anyone to count on getting a seat!
