First and foremost Change the locks. So many people forget to do that and a small percentage of the time. You never know how many keys were given to friends and relatives during the course of the previous owner(s). And what about if the property was bank owned? How many keys floated around out there? You need to be aware of that and take the precaution of safety for yourself and your loved ones. Now that you’re in your next move may be to clean ALL the flooring (carpet, tile etc) in the home. There is nothing like the scent of freshly cleaned carpet to place your furniture on. Who knows when it was last taken cared of?

If you’re fussy like some of my clients are the kitchen and bathroom(s) will need to be cleaned from head to toe. There are too many germs that be spread from those areas. If there are appliances that stayed with the home those should be attended to as well. Basically what I’m saying is your new home should be ready for you and your family to enjoy. Some people have gone the extra mile and have hired a pest inspector to make sure that there are no unwanted guests to reside in your home with you.

All in all it’s important to make sure YOUR investment lives up to your standards. Even in a competitive market like we have here in West Michigan take the time to do it right. It’s about you and your family having a place that you can call home.
