What is this SEO Business?
Back to the basics!
We use the acronym SEO many times a day.
Tammy Emineth answers this question in this re-post:
What is this SEO Business?
Sometimes we have to go back to the basics to make sure we have those covered. If we focus too much on the technical side of things we may miss the whole point of online marketing. If you're new to blogging SEO may be a foreign abbreviation to you.
SEO - SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION
A Search engine is the platform you use to search the web, be it Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask or one of the other thousand sites to search online.
Optimization simply means optimizing a website for easy reading, explanation and indexing by search engines AND people alike.
One big myth is that if you have a website you will show up in these search engines. That is simply not true.
A website must be optimized properly to gain any major exposure in search engines like Google. Typically there is a belief that if Google likes your site, the rest [Bing, Yahoo, etc ] will follow. I don't necessarily see this as true across the board BUT Google is the search engine giant in which 50% of the public uses so optimizing for Google is a good strategy.

Does Blogging Matter?
Blogging accomplishes several goals in online marketing. For starters it provides fresh content to the internet with yourself as the author. This creates more content about you, from you and about your services and tells people about you. Blogs build familiarity and positive branding and people will do business with you because they know you, like you and trust you.
This is the human side of blogging. The technical side is blogging creates back links to your site and an off-site marketing venue for directing traffic and search engines back to your main website again and again. Blogging on off-site platforms such as ActiveRain, WordPress, Blogspot and the like add to the collection of information out there by you about you and your service.
SEO is a lot of little details all working together to create a highly optimized blog or site. If you're new, don't get frustrated if you're not found right away. Think of your online exposure as a courtship between your site and the search engines. They want to know your serious and know what you're talking about before they trust you. This can take weeks, months or even over a year before your taken seriously online. Keep at it. Keep giving Google what it wants - honestly - not in short cuts or easy fixes. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
