The York River is an estuary which means that the tide meets the streams there.  The York River is also one of the deepest rivers in the eastern part of the US.  (The picture of the York River below was taken at sunset)

On August 26th Estuaries Day will be celebrated on the York River. Lots of marine life can be seen there.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about marine life and experience nature first hand.

So where does one go to celebrate Estuaries Day?  It can be celebrated at any of the state parks or beaches on the York River.

The York River State Park is located about 15 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg off Croaker Road.

Estuaries Day will provide an opportunity to meet friends and family while enjoying the beautiful vistas of the York River.  In addition to a fishing pier and picnic area there are more than twenty miles of hiking trails at the York River State Park.  Visitors can take canoes or kayaks on the river, enjoy a boat tour, a wagon ride and more.  The activities run from 9:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon.

Park admission is free, however there is a parking fee of $4.00 per car.
