I know it's a little early but I am eagerly awaiting fall. This Texas summer has not been a hotter than normal summers but I am ready for the heat to pass. Now with Hurricane Harvey hitting the temperatures have lowered quite a bit.
Today as I write this Texas is being affected by Hurricane Harvey in ways we who are not in the heart of it cannot imagine. Having lived through Hurricane Ceilia and remembering that the Rockport/ Corpus area did not get electricity back for 3 weeks I wonder how long it is going to take Rockport and Houston recover from Hurricane Harvey. Most of us cannot imagine losing everything and our hearts go out to those who have.
As a Texan I am proud of the way the state has pulled together and how the people have come to the aid and assistance of their fellow Texans. They are everyday heros. So we thank you.
In our area we were predicted to get between 12-18 in of rain and Harvey diverted to the east so we only got about 30 mph+ winds and 2 in of rain. So we spent our time watching the weather forecasts and feeling awe at the storm and its force.
Having lived in Houston for 10 years after graduating from Univ of Houston I can relate to the areas and the unbelief of what that water is doing. I lived in the Heights --so named because it was higher than other areas of Houston and wonder how that neighborhood is fairing.
So as Harvey leaves it imprint on Texas for a very long time, hopefully as fall enters the picture Texans will be able to pick up the pieces and move forward quickly. That is what we as Texans do.
