Saturday Smiles: Today's Bounty @The Santa Barbara Farmers Market

By

We enjoy our Saturday treks to the Santa Barbara Farmers Market.  There is always something new to discover.  Check out those beautiful blackberries, they are enormous.  Our friend from whom we also buy avocados makes jam with these.

Spaghetti squash is starting to make an appearance.  If you are curbing your carbohydrate intake, you will enjoy this squash as it has long strands similar to spaghetti.  Just add your favorite marinara sauce and sprinkle parmesan!

This papaya melon was new to us.  It named that because of its papaya shape.

We loved the stiping of this yellow fleshed watermelon.

And we end on a red note.  This lipstick pepper is one of our favorites, it is very sweet great in salads and grilled on the barbecue!

Wishing you lots of Saturday Smiles

Good morning, Alexandra and Ron -- "lipstick" because of the color or the shape(at least some)? I can see reasons for either or both to be true.

I buy those lipstick peppers all the time, Alexandra, but never knew they had such an "official" name. I love fresh blackberries; haven't seen any in ages.

Good afternoon Ron and Alexandra Seigel ,

I had to stop by to see what you found this week at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market!! I love you sharing each week with us. I think the lipstick peppers look delicious and can almost taste them in a salad! My Geno brought home blackberries this week from Central Market that look just like the ones you have in your picture..I love them in salads too!

Fresh fruit at the farmers marketHi Alexandra!  Delightful photos as usual! Funny but, I bought blackberries (and assorted fruits) at the farmers market yesterday to use in my fruitty ice cubes for drinks for tomorrow's Panther tailgating. I spent a good deal of last night and tonight freezing them. I only have 3 ice trays since we have an automatic icemaker so, it takes awhile to make a large batch!

We love making homemade lemonade or using lemon water ice cubes and adding fruit to serve in our drinks. The drinks don't get watered down in the heat - and you have yummy fruit at the bottom of your glass too!

And, those lipstick peppers are beautiful too - that is also one of my staples from the farmers market.

Hope you guys have a great rest-of your weekend!

The gourds and squashes are abundant. I would like one more watermelon before the season ends. Beautiful produce here.
