Speechless Sundays - Spring Color, Fall Beauty

Spring is just the most beautiful time of the year - the colors are so bright and welcomed, following the dreary 'brown' we see the preceeding 3-4 months of winter. Summer months bring more color as the spring colors fade and fall has its very own, special "look."

We love living in such a 'green city' (Charlotte). Blessed with four seasons, much like the city itself, we are in constant transition!  With all of the trees that fill this beautiful city, we have quite the colorful fall transition to winter - the reds, oranges and yellows combine to play one spectacular show of color for Charlotteans.

Imagine the surprise when I found this gorgeous fall flower at the local farmers market yesterday - in a pot of pansies and rosemary. I searched and searched for the name of the flower and no one working there seemed to know what it was either but, we were all in agreement - it was a beautiful bloom!

One worker thought it was a Columbine but, I can't seem to find anything that looks like this online. Another suggeested a Coneflower and one a Dahlia but, no one was sure at all what this beauty was!

Perhaps Roy Kelley or Liz and Bill Spear know what it is!

That's a stunning flower, Debe. I think it's a dahlia, but my gardening knowledge is limited!

This looks like a dahlia. They are wonderful flowers that you should have in your home garden.

Good morning Debe.

I  was going to suggest Roy Kelley but it looks like he has already responded. I would not bet against him..  So, to echo I believe it is a dahlia.

I think Jeff got it right out of the gate.  My parents have them, but we don't have them in our garden.  One of those flowers that need dug up and replanted every year and I just don't have the desire to do that when I have other options.

Debe, I love the detail in the bloom. So beautiful. Hard to believe we're seeing fall colors already, I love the change in season except when it's winters turn.

I agree, looks like a dahlia, but then I did not recognize asters yesterday, so defer to those above who say a dahlia.

Dahlias bloom in the summer so I think it's a chrysanthemum. On second thought, it could be a Jessica dahlia. Dahlias tend to have pointier tips than mums.

When I first saw it, I thought it to be a Dahlia.  But, I'm glad Roy Kelley commented.  I think he's the flower expert around here.

Yup, Dahlia for sure! And there are a plethora of different types of this incredible flower. I used to go to a "u-pick" dahlia place, and the choices of different shapes were stupendous. Reminds me that I need to plant some of those as the bulbs I had were too old when I remembered to plant them and they didn't come up, darn it. Or dahlia it!!
