When I get introduced to someone as a real estate agent, what usually follows is the question...
How's the real estate market right now?
It's a question that varies neighborhood by neighbor and also varies by housing type so it's typically difficult to answer it properly.
Jump Right In!
When I started out in real estate, I wanted to convey that the market was GREAT, encouraged the person to "jump on in" and asked a few questions to determine why they're asking and tried to give a more customized response. Some people openly explained their situation which allowed me to give them a more detailed and accurate answer. Others were more guarded with their responses making it harder to give them my "best answer".
Data and Research
Over time I've developed a different approach that focuses on the individual, but also considers data and research. I've designed and taught several classes to real estate agents focused on working with home buyers. It's imperative to have and understand the latest data when trying to figure out the latest trends and offer the best advice available. Whether it's generational buying behaviors, information about financing, or the motivations or today's buyers, having the latest data is crucial.
This Month in Real Estate

As you can see, these numbers are national in focus. They may, or may not line up with the local real estate market in the DC Area, or in your particular neighborhood of interest.
