What is Your WORD for 2018?

I had the privilege of listening to a wonderful speaker about a week ago. She challenged us with finding our "Word" for the new year. A word that can cause change, directs you, calms you, or inspires you. It could be a word that simply gives you hope. It is your word so don't let any perceived parameters deter you from finding your word!

 

As I began ruminating on this thought, I began reflecting on various words and contemplating what mine would be. I am still seeking my word for the year and will let you know when it has been solidified in my mind.

 

In the meantime as I was writing in my  journal, I played around with an acronym using WORD. What came to me is truly a great direction for me:

 

W - Wisdom 

O - Organization

R - Reliability

D - Dynamic

 

Wisdom to use sound judgment, make good decisions, and to seek wise counsel when needed. So many times I can be in a hurry and make a quick decision rather than taking my time to make a good, solid, wise decision. Wisdom requires patience, experience, and good judgment. Obviously, this is an excellent attribute to possess and practice daily.

 

Being organized personally allows me to be more productive, accomplish my goals, and provides me with a better mind-set for the day. In order to get the things done daily, the more organized I am, the more I can get done. Organization however, takes time and planning. Things just don't organize themselves on their own. Spending some time daily on organization will have huge pay-offs as your productivity increases.

 

A reliable person is dependable and trustworthy. We should all aspire to this. Wanting to be reliable and actually being reliable however, are two different things. I choose to be reliable in doing what I say that I am going to do. Nothing frustrates me more than those who don't follow up, communicate responsibly, and simply ignore the details that need to be completed. In my career in real estate, reliability is critical!

 

The final part of my acronym for WORD is dynamic. This may seem like a zestful word and indeed it is. The dictionary defines the word dynamic in describing a person as:

 

positive in attitude and full of energy and new ideas

 

Yes! This is the person that I want to be! Daily I strive for being positive in my attitude. And guess what? That promotes me being full of energy. When I am full of energy I do get new, fresh ideas. This isn't just a mindset though. Projecting a positive attitude and being positive takes work, discipline, and care. I need to be well rested, and fueled properly. Taking care of your physical self does help you maintain a positive attitude.

 

So maybe my word for 2018 is simply WORD and all that these letters stand for me. I would love to hear from you what your Word is and if you practice this. May your 2018 be prosperous, joyful, and productive.
