Respecting Each Other on the Rain!

The question that was asked for this blog:  What section of the community guidelines that appeals to me?  My answer is, “Respect the Active Rain Community”.  It also lines up with my values and that’s to respect people on or off the rain.

My writing this blog has given me insight on the guidelines from Active Rain.  I have observed many sites.  When I visit different real estate sites, I find the most successful sites are the ones that enforce their rules, regulations, and or guidelines.  This way you do not have people disrespecting one another with their comments.  I see some sites where people post anything they want without considering respect for one another.

Being a member of the rain, I have come to know many of these members as if I have met them in person.  I have come to know that being part of this community requires me to respect and remain humble to demonstrate respect for my fellow peers on the rain.

Since we all come from different backgrounds, that means that our thought process will be different.  When we respond, it does not necessarily mean that we are wrong, but if we can respect each other’s thoughts, ideas, or opinions in our community, then we can have a healthy environment and continue to grow.

I enjoy observing how different we think.  My thoughts are one way only to find out someone else’s thoughts are totally different.  I have a lot of aha moments when I read the comments.

Here are my five tips that helps keep in line for respecting fellow peers:

1.  Listening is the key component

2.  Don’t react – but instead respond

3.  Don’t take it personal.  It’s not about you.

4.  Your answer is not always right – most times it’s your opinion and don’t take your opinion as truth unless you have done full research to validate it as being truth

5.  Allow others to be free with their comments

Based on the guidelines, we owe one another respect and we believe in keeping

that to the forefront when we come on this site.  I am sure that we all have benefited

on many different levels from the rain and we want to continue to participate on the

site and make a difference for those who are coming behind us.

Such a well written post, respect is the key in every day life as well.  So many things can go wrong when people don't have respect for each other at a minimum.

Good morning, Karen.  Respect is pretty much the foundation for all relationships.  If we don't give respect how can we expect to get it? I do appreciate that AR truly makes an effort to enforce the guidelines. This separates it from many forums.  Thanks for the post.
