"For the wise man, every day is a festival."
-Plutarch
We are currently in the throes of winter in central Washington State but come Springtime Wenatchee will be seriously a-buzz.
It will be literally a-buzz with all the worker bees buzzing around pollenizing the apple blossoms so we have lots of beautiful apples to harvest in the Fall. Every Spring is so beautiful during the bloom period. Besides the apple blossoms, the dogwoods are always a fabulous reminder that Spring is, indeed, here!
Wenatchee has long been known as the Apple Capital of the World. These days, though, trees are being cut down in order to "plant" houses. Apple farmers have so much worldwide competition it is getting more and more difficult to make a profit, so they are selling their land for development.
Figuratively speaking, the town is a-buzz every year beginning in late April when the 10-day Washington State Apple Blossom Festival festivities start. A royalty Queen and two princesses preside over many events and activities during the 10-day party. The royalty is selected from a group of students from both Wenatchee and Eastmont (East Wenatchee) High Schools. The top 10 have already been selected for this year, with the final selection night scheduled for Saturday, February 10th.
This year Apple Blossom will officially be April 26 - May 6. There are 10 jam-packed days of music and all kinds of events and activities all over town.
The Festival will climax the first Saturday in May with the Grand Parade. The Grand Parade is a big deal and always the first Saturday of May. The Apple Blossom festivities officially start 10 days earlier, though (on a Thursday). We have a "Kids Parade" the first Saturday.
Another favorite event during The Festival is the "Classy Chassis" Parade held the Friday night before the Grand Parade. During the Classy Chassis Parade you can see hundreds of old classic cars driving down Grant Road and Valley Mall Parkway in East Wenatchee. My husband owned two classic cars... a 1972 Buick Riviera and a 1972 Buick Centurion convertible ( originally owned by ex-governor Albert Rossellini. There were years when we entered both cars in the parade and others we just entered one. We entered this parade many years when my husband was alive. Now, I still enjoy but only as a spectator.
The Washington State Apple Blossom Festival is the biggest event of the year in Wenatchee and brings in thousands of people from all over the region.

Thanks, Wayne Martin . It's mostly big players left in the growing and packing sector.
Hi Nina Hollander . Someday maybe you'll come out to the Pacific Northwest. Springtime is a great time to do it!

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel . The Rose Parade is certainly a big deal, building up to a big football game. We don't have a football game but we have lots of other stuff to do. Everyone is a winner. By-the-way, you do know it's Tuesday, right? LOL
Hi Carol... I'm not unfamiliar with the Northwest... used to travel there every 4-6 weeks on business when I worked for the Bank of California in the mid-1970's in San Francisco. But the closest I've been to the NW since 1976 was Vancouver and even that was in 1991!

Been to the Tulip festival a few times and this sounds like another reason to head to the NW.

Hi Joe Pryor . The Tulip Festival IS awesome too, Joe. Lots of reasons to visit the Northwest in the Spring.
Hi Nina Hollander . I don't suppose your business travel allowed much time for sightseeing. Lots of things to see in the Northwest and the Spring is a great time.

Hi Carol... actually, I used to "build" my trips to Portland, Seattle, and Tacoma around weekends, so I actually did have time to do some sightseeing.

That's great, Nina Hollander . We need to get you to the Eastside of the State. I grew up East of Portland in the Columbia Gorge. Beautiful country.
Carol Williams ~ I think that the farthest east I've been in the state of Washington is Olympia.
Well, maybe someday you can venture East of the Cascade Mountains and enjoy a whole different experience, Nina Hollander.
I am often asked, when they find out I'm from Washington State "oh isn't that where the apples come from" rather than isn't that where Boeing builds the Jets?
So Wenatchee has really put our state on the map Carol Williams

Good morning Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®,CRS, . Well, apples are in just about every retail store in the country. I guess Boeing jets can't say that. LOL
Good morning Lisa Von Domek . Yes, it's kind of sad. Government regulations have made it difficult for the small farmer to compete.
Good morning Laura Cerrano . Coming to the Northwest would be a great trip for you.
HI Carol Williams - We always think of all the different events and things to see in Fall. I like that you are highlighting this event now so people can plan ahead to attend. Great post.
It sounds a lot like the peach festival here. It sounds like a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing.
