Love. I don't think there can be a more fitting word for this week's What's the Word Wednesday since today is none other than Valentine's day. I saw a joke on Facebook today that mentioned that today is for lovers and for everyone else, it is just Wednesday. Funny and not funny at the same time.
Valentine's day can be very hard on people who are not in a romantic relationship at this time in their lives. Society has made huge expectations out of Valentine's day. I'd like to propose that we all be our own Valentine, making ourselves happy with something today, whether it be our significant other, our children, our extended family, our pets, or just something in our lives that makes our hearts sing. I think we should go out and find someone whom we can make happy if only for a few minutes today. Share the love.
I miss the days when my boys would bring home valentines for me, made in school, The simple love of a child for their parent is so pure and unsullied by commercialism. I know that my boys love me still, but I miss those days when they would crawl in my lap for a snuggle. We always used the phrase "love me up" and my sons would often ask to be "loved up" and there isn't a better feeling in the world than snuggling a child. I am looking forward to someday "loving up" a beloved grandchild. For now, I'll be loving up my little dog.
I realize this is a real estate blog and I'd like to point you to my friend Rosemary Phinney Buerger's post today in which she likens buying and selling real estate to dating, it's a must read and so clever. Rosemary is my "go-to" real estate agent in Fayetteville, North Carolina. If I know someone transferring into her area, she's the first person I think of. You'll enjoy her post and you can read it here.
My wish for you for today is that you are loved. That you are appreciated for the things that make you special and different. That you are doing something you love.
Happy Valentine's day.
