How do you respond when the frustration bug bites?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams of Central PA RS334568

This morning I wrote an article that took me about two hours.  I was feeling really good about it when I hit the 'publish' key and boom, the site went down!

Whaaaaattt???!!!

Okay, I took a deep breath, went to refill my coffee, took a brief stroll around my office and then asked myself - do I want this silly set back to throw off my day?  Of course not!

Do you ever feel frustrated?

If you have a pulse, and you're honest, you probably occasionally get bit by the frustration bug.
Well, the good news is that this is not a post with the intention of tossing our frustrations into a big pot of boiling frenzy...
Nope, this is intended to be an upbeat post that explores the powerful ways we each respond to the bite of the frustration bug!

For me the four main ingredients necessary to overcome the bite of frustration are:

-Pause

-Move

-Laugh

-Refocus

Pause:

I stop and literally take a deep breath.  This helps to remind me that I am human and feeling frustration is normal and healthy but it also reminds me that I am in control of how I respond.

Move:

I will get up and move my body.  If I'm in car, this may just include moving the position of my arms or adjusting my posture but just moving helps me to release the initial tension that is trying to stick to me.

Laugh:

Yes, I confess that this is sometimes not so easy, but ultimately it helps to accept that sometimes the glitches and messes in life are simply an opportunity to giggle.  A good dose of humor is often a powerful elixir.

Refocus:

Sometimes the most frustrating moments teach us needful lessons that help us to gain further clarity and propel us forward with renewed perspective.

So, how do you respond when the frustration bug bites you?

All of us face those moments of frustration.

On Saturday, I thought my time on ActiveRain was over when I could not login until I updated my password and then received notices that my blog posts did not exist.  We just have to move on with more positive thoughts.

Well . . . I have a 5 lb sledgehammer in my truck's toolbox . . .

 . . . and everything you said.

When it comes to technology, I have always had the mindset of "Look, you infernal little !@#$%^&*()_ BOX, bend to my formidable will and be quick about it!"

This does not always happen, but sometimes a reboot of the human will result in a reboot of the situation.

Candice A. Donofrio - You truly have a way with words that brings forth authentic laughter every single time!!  And by some crazy twist of AR insanity, I realized today that somehow/someway, I had not been 'following' you, according to AR standards anyway - but you already know I'm a raving fan of yours and still want my front row seat if you ever decide to do stand-up comedy!!

Laughing at Candice's comment - of course. You are so right, there is not a heck of a lot we can do about things out of our control. You have the answers. I might say a naughty word ( out loud!) when a post disappears, but then it's back in perspective and I move on - quickly.

Hi Maria... you certainly handled it better than I would... then again I can swear in at least three or four languages and would use a situation like this as an excuse to do so.

This is great advice! Sometimes we forget to laugh, but it's always a good idea to clear your mind with something positive before getting back to business.

Maria, this is so wonderful! Deserves a gold star in my book. I realize that taking 10 deep breaths has a tendency to put my mind and body at ease. It's simple, you can do it anywhere and for free!

A long walk is a must, too. With my dogs! ACtually, I need to go do that right now.

Well, after 2 hours of writing, I'd be more than a little upset if the computer crashed. Changing the environment always worked best when my kids were little and it still works for me now.
