I have been contemplating a move to Oregon. My best freind from high school is a Real estate broker in Medford and he has invited me to join his team. I mentioned this in my office here in sunny Arizona and one reaction was how could you even think about moving up there because all it does is rain. This brings up a very good point. Many of us never travel very far from our birthplace or the area that we were raised so opinions about places we have never been to are formulated from those who may have been there and given their opinion. I looked up the average weather between Portland and Medford and it turns out that Medford gets about 20 inches less rain a year than Portland. How about that.

Hi Tim,
I have family in Oregon and have visited frequently. I have lived in Southern California all my life (a true native) and I love the climate in SoCal. You just can't beat it. I also think that Oregon is a beautiful place to visit. It is so green and lush and has some breathtaking topography, including waterfalls. But, it rains way too much for this SoCal guy. I will stick to visiting, but will always call Southern California home.

Not to discourage you but if you do move to our beautiful state of Oregon get ready for some wild and crazy weather. Here where I live in the Eugene/Springfield area (which is almost the halfway mark between Portland and Medford) it will rain with the sun being out, it will sometimes snow and the sun comes out, hail and then sun, sometimes all of the above will happen within the same day. Crazy huh? All in all it is a beautifull place to live in. It's greener here which means the air is better.

Tim: Several years ago I visited a friend in the Portland area. I spent five weeks there. Thirty five days ! It rained on thirty-three of them. Pretty or not, it was just too much for me to take. I hope Medford is different. My advice... spend about six weeks there trying it out before you make your move a reality.

Hey Tim, you won't melt don't worry. I moved from Las Vegas after 23 years where it averaged 4 inches of rain a year. Now I am on the Central Coast in Florence that averages 70 inches a year. It's not that bad, we still get plenty of sunshine and if you want all this beautiful country you will get used to the rain. It's not like AZ where you get rain and then weeks worth of mud. I think you will really enjoy it. Myself, as long as I get lots of sunshine too, I don't care how much it rains. My first year here we saw 80 inches, that was 20 years worth of rain for Las Vegas :)
