It's finally springtime and there's much to do in Brandon this month! Mark your calendars for these fun events around the Jackson Metro area.
May 5 ~ Pearl Day Festival
This event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. at Pearl City Park with arts and crafts, a Kid Zone with inflatables and a petting zoo, and a dunking booth. There will be live entertainment throughout the day on both the small stage and at the Pearl Junior High School track and football field. The gates open at 4 p.m. for the BIG stage and $10 tickets are available here. Country Music star Sara Evans is the headline performer.

May 5 & 6 ~ Spring Parade of Homes
Sponsored by Home Builders Association of Jackson, this is the final weekend for the Parade of Homes, which includes Madison, Rankin and Hinds Counties. Here's a guide to the various locations. May 10 ~ Canton Flea Market
The Canton Flea is one of the most popular Arts and Crafts shows in the south and is held semi-annually on the second Thursday of May and October. Over 5000 shoppers converge on the Canton Square for this fabulous event.
May 11 ~ PEPSI POPS IN Old Trace Park
The Rez, picnics and pop tunes make this concert an annual family magnet to be enjoyed by blanket, lawn chair or boat. The 37th annual Pepsi Pops promises a unique outdoor experience ending with a night sky of fireworks! Music brought to you by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
May 12 ~ Flowood Family Festival
The gates open at 4 p.m. for this FREE event at Liberty Park. Space Jumps, Slides, Petting Zoo, Train Rides, Kid's Karaoke, and a grand Fireworks Finale. Fair style food will be available for purchase. Entertainment is two-time Grammy Award Winners for KING & COUNTRY and Grammy nominated - Zach Williams.
May 12 ~ BankPlus Red Beans and Rice Festival, Renaissance at Colony Park, Ridgeland MS
The event will include a red beans & rice cook-off with 15 to 20 teams, people's choice judging to name Best Red Beans Recipe Champion, and fantastic live music throughout the day. May 31 ~ Sunset Concert Series at Lakeshore Park
Sponsored by the Barnett Reservoir Foundation and PRV Water Supply District
Featuring local performer Joseph LaSalla, gates open at 5:00pm, music begins at 6 and continues until the sun sets on the reservoir. $5 entry per car load, or free if the car has “The REZ” tag. Food, beverage and beer vendors on site. Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy the music in the park. Kids and pets are welcome.
