Yesterday we took the Way Back Machine back to the 1960’s. It is such a long way back, I decided to stay there one more day and visit with the tempting Temptations.
The Temptations is a vocal group that has been entertaining audiences for more than six decades.
The five classic members which were comprised of first tenor Eddie Kendricks, second tenors David Ruffin and Paul Williams, baritone Otis Williams and bass Melvin Franklin are the group that helped establish the signature sound. In 1968 Dennis Edwards replaced lead singer David Ruffin and immediately brought newfound stability to the group. Many of the group’s early hits demonstrated the mixture of vocal ranges that each member brought to the group. Of course over that 60 year period, there have been many new faces bringing a variety of different sounds, but the old standards still entertain audiences worldwide.
The group has been elected to The Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Grammy Hall of Fame and has been inducted into The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. They even have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
As a young man The Temptations were one of my favorite groups and even today they still maintain a place on my favorite playlists.
Today’s entry is I Can’t Get Next To You, the group's second number one hit. I chose it because it gave each member of the band a chance to solo.
