Bagdad mines and mountains: Traveling Arizona

Last month I traveled to a part of Arizona that I had never stopped in before, the Town of Bagdad.

The town of Bagdad is located in the high deserts of central Arizona approximately 100 miles northwest of Phoenix / 60 miles west of Prescott. The town has had a direct relationship to local mining operations which have been ongoing since 1882 when the first claims were staked...per http://bagdadaztown.com/

Bagdad is a copper mining community and census-designated place in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States, in the western part of the state. It is one of only two remaining company towns in Arizona. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. Wikipedia

Bagdad has open pit copper mine which can be seen from the Bagdad Airport on top of the plateau and is available for tours.

 

The town has a popular diner and company housing and schools and not too far from the Colorado River.
