Kitchens Are Important : Period !

David, there is no doubt that the kitchen is the most important room in the house.  At least three times a day, if not more, people enter the kitchen to decide what nutrients and meals will go into their body at that moment.  Food spurs conversation and nurtures lives.  We renovated our kitchen 2.5 years ago and transformed it from a place that we dreaded being into a showpiece of our home.  It changes your whole attitude.  Whether they are chefs, gourmands, or not, buyers care about kitchens!

I made the unfortunate error of buying a house that has almost everything we wanted .... except the kitchen is too small. I cook nearly every night and do a lot of food preparation, and I don't have room to maneuver. There is no easy fix, it is what it is, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd get the kitchen I need!

My wife was very picky about her kitchen. She loved the kitchen in our first home and wanted this one to be as great. She also thinks counter space is very important so that you have somewhere to work. I've seen some crazy kitchen set ups that just don't function well.

The kitchen is by far a selling point in a home!

Hi, David:  I totally agree with your post .... kitchens count!  With so much new technology out there today, it's difficult to decide what to choose to put in a new kitchen design, but one thing that is certainly important is the "triangle" relationship you've described.  A most important feature of the home is the functionality of the kitchen.

You said it all. The kitchen is absolutely the most important selling point in a home. Although, the other day a client said "you know me Becky, I don't cook." Maybe not so important to her but she needs to know it may be a selling point for the next client.

I learned about this seven feet when we remodeled our kitchen about 20 years ago. A larger kitchen worked well when there were often four of us working together -- we had more than the classic seven feet. When the kids were gone and we built our dream house, we downsized the kitchen. It's now less than 7 feet and we're glad because even though there are often two of us in there at once, we like the coziness! Plus, we bad knees in old age, the fewer steps the better.

With kitchens, as will all else, one size doesn't fit all.

We had a house for sale that everyone thought was wonderful because the kitchen was so big.  My thinking was I wouldn't want to walk all the way around that large island all the time to get to the refrigerator and back to the work areas, etc.  I could see it walking the cook to death.
