It is a big shopping weekend coming up for many of the Virginian residents. Like the past years, the state has generously offered a tax-free 2018 weekend for eligible items. Once again, we have three different categories that homeowners, parents and the general public can take advantage of.

Categories for 2018 Virginia Sales Tax-Free Weekend
1. Tax-Free School Supplies: Yes, we are still in the middle of summer and kids would hate to hear this news....Stores have already started selling back to school supplies.
What Supplies are included:
Items like clothing, footwear (under $100), book bags, note books and all the basic accessories are included. No computers are included.

2. Hurricane and emergency preparedness: We had a warm winter, damp spring, and a roller coaster HOT summer so far. We haven't seen a major hurricane in past few years. However, you can never predict mother nature.
What supplies are included:
Under $60 for most of the basic emergency items like Batteries, flashlights, glow sticks, tarpaulins, plastic sheeting, plastic drop cloths, artificial ice, blue ice, ice packs, duct tape, carbon monoxide detectors Smoke detectors fire extinguishers, first aid kit and many other items.
$1,000 or less per item Portable Generators, Inverters and inverter power cable, Photovoltaic devices that generate electricity.
$350 or less per item: Gas-powered chainsaws.

3: ENERGY STAR AND WATERSENSE ITEMS: This has been out there for a while. Northern Virginia home owners if you still have that old water heater it may be now a good time to replace and save! Other home improvement items include HVAC, toilets, washer & dryer, dishwasher, shower heads, faucets, light bulbs, ceiling fans and many more items.
What supplies are included:
The item has been affixed with an Energy Star or WaterSense label. The cost price of the item is $2,500 or less, and the item is purchased for non-commercial or personal use.

Last Note: Do remember not all the store participate you may want to check with the store you shop for the supplies if they do participate in the no tax weekend.
