I was speaking yesterday to a friend of mine who is a college wrestling coach.
We spoke about what it takes to achieve a goal. In the sport of wrestling, he was one of the best college wrestlers of the decade during his time, so I guess you can say that he knows a thing or two about achieving a goal.
We also spoke about achieving a goal when at the present moment you feel like an absolute failure.
I remember drowning in debt and living paycheck to paycheck and running my business off of my credit cards. I sure did not FEEL like I would ever achieve my goal of being debt free, but I woke up every day HOPING for it?
We spoke about how we both believe that every single person wakes up every single day and wants to achieve a particular goal, but so many do not and so few do and we wondered why that was.
Our conclusion was PURPOSE.
Every single day I woke up, I was absolutely determined to pay off my debt. All I cared about was winning THAT day and making money THAT day and paying the debt down THAT day. I had tunnel vision.
Every single day he woke up, he told me that he was determined to be the #1 wrestler in the country and all that he cared about was working as hard as he can THAT day and to be the best wrestler on THAT day. He had tunnel vision.
Ultimately, he won the nationals (twice) and I have since paid off all of my debt. In comparing our stories, the common denominator was that we woke up each and every single day with a PURPOSE.
We stayed focused on that purpose every single day and never lost sight of it until we achieved our goal.
To everyone reading this, have a PURPOSE for today and for each and EVERY day.
Until next time, let’s seize THIS day!!
