13 Things on my mind... while walking the dogs...

So many issues.  So little time.

So many questions!
Here are a few things I have been wondering about lately...

  1. If Millenials are glued to their electronic devices, how do you think they will interact with those of us in the real estate/construction industry?  Will they find us solely through social media or a web search?  Will they text their friends for a referral?  Are they intimidated by personal interaction scenarios?
  2. What on earth happened to the primacy of the internet and web hosting?  It used to be that correct organic results came up with simple queries.  Why do we have to deal with a dozen other ways to be 'found' when everybody gets wind of these other ways and then does the same thing??  In the end, the wall of yellow pages in the library is now a fortress of digital yellow pages in the ether...
  3. And who has the time, knowledge, or funds to deal with every single workaround out there??  If you can't do it yourself correctly, then you have to pay someone nearly full time to constantly update, monitor, write blogs, answer comments, create new material, check statistics, keep on top of the IT, and worry about this and that!??
  4. Why do two dogs who can't stand each other in the house, go nose to nose checking other dog email and nose to rear when walking around the block??
  5. Is there another recession coming?  Are we at the peak of construction?  Do we all really have 6 months of survivability based on current money outflow?  I don't think so.  The last recession seemed to take 8 years to weather.  Did you see so many people give up their houses almost immediately?  Did they know something that I/we don't know??
  6. If you are going to pronounce the word daughter with silent g and h then you should do the same for the word laughter.
  7. Isn't this the absolute worst political climate you have ever witnessed?? Why on earth is everyone holding torches to each other??
  8. Why won't Jaguar just make a nice fiberglass retro of their vaunted E series and throw in a nice turbo V8 for crimini's sake and sell it for $85K rather than rebuilding those rust heaps and dumping batteries in them??  And then charging half a million bucks for it??
  9. In what style shall we build?  This was the title of a 1800s book by an Austrian architect who found himself in the middle of an eclectic morass of building styles going haywire.  He also bemoaned the fact that architects don't receive proper recognition until they turn 65.  HA
  10. Why don't George and John's sons match up with Paul and Ringo and do a 'final tour'??!
  11. Will there be any devastating hurricanes this year?  And if not, why not?  The local weather can't even report correctly that it is raining at the moment.  How do these people 'know' where and when these things will land??
  12. With Apple hitting the $1 trillion mark will there be any brick and mortar stores after they are through with their program??
  13. And finally: how many of you sold a house today on Labor Day?  I just received a very promising call to start up a new design for the Miami area.  French Country.  Only folks... really... if you have a maximum allowable height of 35 ft. that part of the state is not ideal for a 60 ft. roof!  I'm just sayin'...

Funny thing about dogs.  When sniffing is involved, they are great buddies.  Thanks for reading my nonsense.

Hi Sheila, and if you take your dogs to a park then you can also take neat photos.  Like this one this morning:

Hi John

Well, I enjoyed your musings, although I don't think I can help with the answers. I didn't sell anything on Labor Day and in fact was in the midde of getting a contract canceled. Oh well.

My word John, your dogs must've been exhausted at walk's end. Given that we walked ours twice a day every day I'd love to read your weekly summary. Here via Kathy Streib

Thanks Kevin, we walk them in the morning once around the block.

Then a park at about noon.

Then at another park at 6-7.

Keeps me in medium shape.  ha

I love my dogs - and I'm glad I live where they can walk themselves.

That does make for good pondering time, however.

What I wonder about the millennials - and about the kids who are in school today - is whether they'll completely forget how to write. Texting seems to be eliminating spelling, grammar, sentence construction, etc. Also, schools aren't teaching cursive, so what if one of today's students grows up and wants to become a historian? They won't be able to read any of the old hand written documents.

Hi Marte, you dogs must be really happy they can wander freely!

I think that not learning how to write by hand is an abomination.  They will then not speak by mouth, only through fingers...

Hi Pat, am really scared about the constant digital manipulation that is going on. Tweaking websites, social media, getting things right or you will fall behind, etc.  You need a full time IT person to do all this.  REALLY!!?? Just ridiculous.  Thanks!
