Here you are, standing in your kitchen while making the fam dinner and as you look around, you just aren’t as impressed as you were when you initially purchased the home. Your wanting to know how to renovate a kitchen yourself and make it more your own just like many other home owners. Luckily, there are millions of little projects you can do around the kitchen to vamp up the décor or even update a few things here and there.

Make the List

No task is easy without organization and planning. Especially do it yourself renovation projects like the kitchen. Not only will this prepare you for the project itself, but it will also save you an amazing amount of time running around a store and avoiding leaving something behind that could be crucial to your project’s needs.

Cabinets

One thing that you often look at with dreadful stare is your cabinets… They’ve lost their luster and no longer make the kitchen look inviting. An easy, yet can be a time consuming fix is staining or painting them another color! This will literally give your kitchen basically a facelift! Bringing back the life into your cabinets can change the whole entire look of your kitchen.

Start by removing all doors and drawers from the lower and upper levels of your kitchen cabinets, if you’d like you can also take on the challenge in sections. Once they are removed you’ll want to sand down the wood, eliminating all the paint that was there before or sanding it down back to the original wood the cabinets are made from. To ensure that your paint or stain job will last generously, add a coat of primer to the cabinets and allow that to dry before adding the paint or stain.

Once the primer is dry and set, you may begin the color process! If you are not painting in a work station, Holtzman Home Improvement suggest purchasing a couple tarps to lay around and under where your painting or staining to avoid a mess that could potentially cost you more than you were initially planning to spend. You’ll have to preform the same process for the built-in aspects of your kitchen cabinets. Since those are not something typically removed unless you’re fully replacing. Grab some painters tape as well for the walls that you can’t seem to get around without making a messy mistake.

Allowing everything that has been painted involves several hours or even possibly waiting over night to place those doors and drawers back in their suggested spots.

Finish

The moment you have everything placed back in their spots and clean up your work area and other messes that might have occurred, how to renovate a kitchen yourself won’t seem like agonizingly terrible task to accomplish. You’ll really understand that something as simple as paint can bring a whole new light and face to whatever room you will be tackling. For me, my kitchen is the heart of our home and when I updated by cabinets it was only the beginning of the endless list of projects I want to pursue with my home now!
