Wordless Wednesday: Does This Sprinkler Make Sense?

I was showing this house in Oceanside a few years ago and arrived before my buyer, so I took a few minutes to check everything out, including the exterior.

This sprinkler in the front corner of the house made me think of some of the inspection issues...and there are many questionable ones...that Richard Weeks shares with us in the Q and A section.

I'm not quite sure of the point, given the downspout (but, hey, we only get rain a few times a year), and no plantings. Although given it's spray painted perhaps it was non-functional. Maybe the foundation and the exerior need watering?

NO! I'm glad you clarified that there are no plantings in the corner either Jeff Dowler, CRS .

Definitely somewhat odd positioning, Jeff. Really makes you wonder sometimes what people were thinking!

That was my immediate thought Grant Schneider .

There would definitely be a drainage issue when it rains, but especially if that sprinkler was working, despite the paint job.

Hi Hannah Williams  Yep that's right about the rain, at least some year. A couple years ago we had quite a lot due to El Nino, but we are well into drought conditions again.

As far as the sprinklers, not sure why they wouldn't at least cap it off, or remove. If it's on, what a waste of precious water and the stucco doesn't require watering.

It looked to me like they were trying to spruce up the yard for the sale, especially with the mulch, Bob "RealMan" Timm . And you wouldn't want plantings right against the house anyhow!

It looks like it was being camouflage.  I wonder if it still works

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS, that's odd. I sure hope it's not a functioning one, it's not that difficult to remove though, especially when the house is on the market for sale.

Well that's just silly.  At least they could have capped it off and buried it in the bark, but that might take the seller ten minutes.  Ain't nobody got time for that!

Jeff,

That is so funny, maybe the sprinkler will wash off the drain spout every so often.  Logic is another skill that many have no concept of.  A

Nina Hollander  Ha ha, or in this case NOT thinking.

William Feela  - And not all that well camoflaged either, although the splash of white paint helps!

Odd indeed Beth Atalay . I've moved and capped off sprinklers myself, or get the gardener to do it!
