Water that tree!

Yes, it is Christmas time and decorations are getting into full swing.

I know a few people who put up a real tree.

Some were cut before the Thanksgiving holiday and some after.

Makes no difference...it needs to be watered!

To start with, unless you just cut it yourself,

cut off an inch or two off the bottom of the tree before you put it into the stand.

Then, you need to get into the habit of checking it everyday.

Doing so will allow your tree to rremain green and hold the  needles through Christmas.

It also makes it a less fire hazard.

Play it safe!

Good advice William Feela , I always used to drill a hole with a paddle bit into the bottom of the trunk (upward) for a couple of inches and that really seemed to help too.

Good morning, William - timely advice and the more we can prevent a household fire, the better.

Water that tree,  Inside and outside.   I see great Christmas trees inside and remind people to water then but with the lack of snow outside and rain we need to water them also.

You are absolutely right, it's important to water a Christmas tree and it will also stay green & fresh longer. This year I plan to buy a small-compact tree in a pot and replant it on my back yard in Spring.

We always make a fresh cut right before it goes in the stand, water well and put on the opposite side of the room from our fireplace by design.

I went artificial.  My family likes the tree up early so it is no real tree for us

Keeping fresh cut trees hydrated is very important to keeping any fire hazard at bay.
