Here is a quick update on Iowa farm land values as provided by David Whitaker at Whitaker Marketing Group in the Des Moines, IA area. The values in Iowa are typically higher per acre than most areas of Nebraska.
A person does need to take into consideration that this is the average of quality and types of arm ground. Some farms sell for a much higher price than others.
Iowa has a nice land evaluation system in place called the CSR - Corn Suitability rating.
They began replacing it with the CSR2 system in 2012 with the main difference being that CSR2 does not take into consideration the climate and is supposed to be easier to use.
While I am not an expert on it, the CSR2 system rates every farm in Iowa on a scale based on the quality of ground. From my distant view...it appears to work very well. I would like to see Nebraska develop a system similar to this but not sure it will ever happen!!
