A Jewish Christmas.........

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

I don't know where or how this started but Christmas is a day that Jews everywhere have a special tradition that has been observed and passed down through generations. We celebrate this day by going to the movies and following it up with Chinese food. I can remember this from early childhood, and it has remained the same ever since. This year my favorite restaurant was already booked but I did find another to try, and am hoping for the best. It's hard to remember to make a reservation months in advance but otherwise you may just be out in the cold after a second rate film. That's the other thing....the best films are not generally shown on Christmas. So that's my tradition and I hope you are enjoying your own. If you celebrate the day I wish you a Very Merry Christmas.

Hi Sheila Anderson - I am well aware of that tradition.  I have seen it in movies as well.  I hope there is a good movie for you to see and hopefully you will add another great Chinese restaurant to go to.

Sheila, Not Jewish, but got fairly close to your routine today.  Liz is out of town visiting her family while I'm the designated zookeeper, so picked up enough Chinese takeout to last me a few days.  And there weren't any movies out today I wanted to see bad enough to go to the theater, so a Netflix day with just me and the furry ones.  Bill

Morning Sheila.

Yesterday after getting up, Santa was a very busy guy the night before.  I know I'm still dragging, but I can't stop now.

Hi Dorie. I saw Vice and it was really good. The restaurant was too crowded and it took over two hours to be served. That said I was with people I adore so it was special.      Sheila

I'm off the engineering job for another week, so figured I'd rather pop out to a movie during an afternoon later in the week when I expect the theater to be less crowded.

Hi Sheila.  Our latest Christmas tradition is to go to my brother in law's house for some bagels and lox and latkes and exchange Hannukah gifts.

Thanks Kathy. The movie was wonderful and certainly different than I expected. (Vice). The new Chinese place was under staffed and even with a reservation it took 45 minutes to be seated and another 2 hours to get our meals. TY     Sheila

That's an amazing tradition, Sheila.  It would be interesting to learn how it got started.  It had to of originated in not so distant history, afterall we have only had movies around for a 100 years or so.

As an aside, I have a very good East Indian friend, who was born and raised in Australia.  When I worked with her at a software company several years ago, she sometimes wore beautiful saris, but in her Aussie accent, often lamented that we should close down the company and go to the pub each afternoon at 2:00.  She is also of the Sikh faith, but she and her family always celebrate Christmas in a very robust way.  That's with a huge Christmas tree in their home, and all that accompanies it.  Holiday traditions around the globe are so enriching to know and understand!

Hi Myrl. I believe this started because most places are closed on Christmas but the Chinese don't celebrate the holiday either. As movies were open, it just made sense. TY     Sheila
