Convert from grass to Xeriscape and you’ll never have to mow again!

Are people asking you "what's up?" and you find yourself answering "my water bill?" Is everybody else out having fun while you're home mowing the lawn? Maybe it is time to get rid of that grass or water-thirsty landscape and replace it with a Xeriscape. Using Xeriscape creates a beautiful common-sense landscape that reduces water and is easier to maintain. Xeriscape comes from the Greek word xeros, which means dry, and refers to seven horticultural principles, which help to ensure that landscapes, wherever they are located, reflect sensitivity to the local environment and its climate.

Residents wanting to spend less time caring for their lawns, and reduce their monthly water bill, can learn the basics of lawn removal and tips for replanting with water-thrifty plants at Converting from Grass to Xeriscape, a free workshop sponsored by the City of Mesa Utilities Department.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on June 11 at the Utilities Department Building – Community Room, 640 N. Mesa Drive. Advance registration is required. To register, call (480) 644-4400 or e-mail your request to conservation.info@cityofmesa.org. A map and confirmation letter will be mailed approximately one week prior to the workshop.
