Throwback Thursday: Back to the Bookstore!

We needed to find a book on ballet for a birthday present of one of our grand-nieces.  She recently became interested in this art form, and her mom suggested a book with photos. We have a few independent small stores in town, but none had what we were looking for.

 

Twenty minutes away from our home is a super-sized Barnes & Noble.  We took our time and enjoyed browsing and looking at various books, as well as magazines. We had not been in this store for a year, and we mostly buy our books on line both hard-copy and digital.

 

Happily, we did locate a beautiful book on ballet published by DK formerly a British Publisher. DK was known for their sturdy and beautiful books with superb photography and printed on fine paper now owned by Penguin. It was nice to see that Penguin is continuing the tradition of fine printing.

Sadly, Alexandra, many of our bookstores in Charlotte have also closed down... both large and independent. Breaks my heart. I remember great bookstores all along Fifth Avenue in NYC and most of them are also gone, as are most of the lovely independent bookstores that were on Madison Avenue.

Hello Ron and Alexandra Seigel book stores were my favorite places to visit, nowadays online I can view majority of the books. Vroman's in Pasadena is my favorite bookstore too, hopefully one day I will meet Endre Barath, Jr. there.

We have a large bookstore close by that I love to go to. it is owned by a wealthy man in Oklahoma City who doesn't care if he loses money. it is like going to an Apple store but at the other end of the energy cycle. Both may me feel good.
