An Obstacle Course Of Sorts
An Obstacle Course Of Sorts Sometimes we don't exactly know where we are going. The exact direction we may take is part of the plan or is it? Perhaps there is something in our way.
Recently I saw the movie Ford v Ferrari based on a true event and the story of race-car builder Carroll Shelby(played by Matt Damon), race-car driver Ken Miles(played by Christian Bale) and Le Mans in the 1960s(played by various locations). Yes, Le Mans plays a significant part in this film.
On the surface, this seems like a car racing movie. And while that is a part of it, there is more to the story. It is an account of power, competition, friendship, respect, knowing your craft and more. It is a blend of those elements.
You see, it is a racing movie but when you dig a bit deeper you can see many layers. Movies like real life are like that. You may enter the "theater" expecting one thing but as the story continues, you discover more. Maybe related. Maybe not.
The action sequences are exciting and if that's your "thing" you will likely enjoy it for that aspect. But the story drives its points forward in multiple ways. The knowledge of the driver and the man behind the driver have a lot more to tell.
Like many things in life, I left the movie wanting to know more. Although, much was told in the two-and-half-hour film, this real life story made me curious. I think it's good when a movie makes you think beyond the story told. Award-season for films is quickly approaching and I am sure Ford v Ferrari is going to be a contender. For many reasons. Will it become a success when the various honors are announced? Who knows. It's Hollywood, after all. Sometimes it's just a prize knowing it's a job well-done.
The idea of success is so subjective. Don't avoid any obstacles....embrace them. You might have a different outlook on success and "winning" if you see the movie.
