Social Media Hijacking ~May I Vent Just a Bit?

I can almost bet that most of you reading this have had a post on social media hijacked in the comments feed. In fact, it often happens here in the blogging world! You've placed a post on your own social media feed and BAM! Someone decides to place a ranting comment that begins a WORD WAR in your feed!

Now, I do enjoy hearing various opinions, however, what is happening now is much more than a friendly volley of hyperbole. These individuals have an agenda and that is to create dissension! Their aim is to inject as much of their leanings into your feed and will wrangle with your personal contacts and their comments.

Tears

This is what took place last week. I was watching the Presidential State of the Union Address and put up a post about the touching stories that were being presented. There was absolutely NOTHING in that post that was partisan in any form or fashion. A simple, "You guys, these stories have turned me into a big ole crying mess!"

Shortly thereafter, a few folks decided to comment with their own, political agendas and dissertations! I mean really? This post was about the touching stories of real humans and heroes.

I finally commented to these people, "Hey there! This is my personal post! Take your dissertation to your own page. With all due respect!"

Hijacking someone else's post simply to enrage and cram your leanings down our throats is nonsensical. Your opinions are yours so keep them out of my personal feed. Remember, this is called "social" media. A place to socialize not start a political word war!

Thank you - that is all! Live today as if it were your last! LIV2DAY!

I have noticed that in the last 5 years or so, that many folks on Social Media don’t understand the concept of Highjacking !!!

Paula, How DARE you post anything that could even remotely be considered as anything positive from the bad Orange Man. (sarcasm font for the first sentence).

It's common knowledge that everything he does or associates with is a lie or evil.   (unfortunately NOT sarcasm font in the opinion of too many in our country).

I think my last remotely politically related post on my own FB wall was about 3 years ago.  I've snoozed, unfollowed and even unfriended the folks that are too militant to even acknowledge a straight up fact because it doesn't support their agenda.

Duck and cover.   Bill

Why do people even do that? It's not only rude. It's stupid.  All it does is alienate people.

"THAT changed my mind," said noone ever!!!

I have seen it too.  Someone writes a pretty innocuous post and, all of a sudden, someone turns it political.  It can be very frustrating.  I do not see any end in sight.  On the bright side,  it seems like those that do this are few and far between on FB.

I'm not really a Facebook fan but every once in a while I try to participate. Over all, people post things on FB that they would never say in person, they just don't understand.

I am not really on Facebook other than a business page or two and therefore have to have a personal page which I generally use to complememnt others. But have seen this and generally will not get involved. It is one of the reasons i don't read much news anymore as the opinions are so diverse and I find divisive rather than pure factual from either side.

Well honestly, you can't even post about political stuff these days. Not even about someone who got the medal because someone hates the person that gave the medal. It's a little nuts out there so I stay entirely away.

The trolls have taken over the planet.

It is sad that the even the most innocent comment can cause such inflammatory reactions. I think:  If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it. You have a different opinion? make a post on your own page.

Adding or taking away is a defect in human nature unless it is asked for and permission given. As to the State of the Union presentation, seeing slices of America come alive for people who need help is a proud moment for all mankind bar none. Help is needed not lips....

I completely understand how you feel about social media Paula McDonald ~ GRI Last time I posted something about politics was 3 years ago and I was bombarded by many with none-sense & stupid comments. Since then I really stayed away from that subject. Sadly this people won't have the courage to tell you these things in person.

Paula, people with an agenda are paid to troll like that. Just one of many reasons to stay off the worst offending social media sites.  It's not without reason that Silicon Valley execs do not allow their children on the internet.  Think about that, these kids do not have social media accts, they're not using any device that goes online.  Many are sent to tech-free Waldorf schools.

Hi Paula:

It's certainly gotten more and more prevalent. Some people seem to have alot of time to spend being rude and unpleasant, especially on Facebook. Nice to be able to delete and block when needed.

It is sad when we are no longer free to share our opinions or ideas, and it is just rude to hijack someone's post.  Don't let them keep you from sharing good news!
