Remember How Excited We Were For 2020?

As 2019 drew to a close, I was glad to see the door shut on that phase of my life. We were so excited for 2020.

I had just finished chemo. One of the little-discussed side effects that people don't mention is the extra weight you'll put on during the time your body is being poisoned with chemicals. When I finished my journey with mega-doses of steroids, I was toting around some thirty-odd pounds that weren't there when I started.

Doctors assured me those pounds "would fall right off" when the drugs were done. Yeah, that didn't happen. I gave myself until the end of January to regain strength and begin the process of reclaiming my previous weight. After all, I have a daughter getting married on a beach in June. I had to be svelte.

Lockdown and "New Norms" Bring on COVID-15

Remember when we graduated from high school and our mothers warned us about the Freshman 15? Well, I'm here to warn you about the COVID-15.

Those fifteen pounds that creep up on your unsuspecting frame while we learn the newly acquired art of social distancing. My favorite doctor mentioned that people are becoming either gourmet chefs, couch potatoes, or alcoholics during these times of being shut in.

COVID-15 is what happens when the most exercise you get in any given four-hour-period is pushing the buttons on the remote or getting another bowl of chips from the kitchen. Let me encourage you to get off the couch at least several times a day.

Those COVID-15 will not just "fall right off" when we're no longer in quarantine.

  • Get up and get moving
  • Walk around the block
  • Go on a Bear Hunt
  • Wave to your neighbors
  • Throw a ball (outside) with a child or a significant other
  • Get out in the sunshine
  • At the very least, read outside
  • Soak up at least twenty minutes of Vitamin D
  • Clean out a closet
  • Scrub a bathroom
  • Create a schedule and limit your TV/computer time
  • Learn new crafts/skills
  • Do some jumping jacks or squats
  • Lift weights (or fill bottles with water and lift those)
  • Work on house projects you wanted to do when you got a round tuit

People had a much higher recovery rate during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic when they were treated outside.

Enjoy your wine and your time, but don't forget to KEEP MOVING.

Have you got other suggestions to KEEP MOVING during quarantine? Please share in the comment section below.
