Saturday Smiles: And Now for Something Completely Different!

By

After several perfect sunny Spring days, the marine layer is here.  Instead of the usual sunny days with highs in the mid to upper 70's, the marine layer is cooling us to the mid 60's. Perhaps, inspired by Michael Jacobs spontaneity post today, and also an intense craving for an almond croissant, we drove to our wine country for one of the Baker's Table famous treats.

From there we drove to a little park in Los Olivos, where we sat at a picnic table and savored our shared croissant and coffee...we then walked around the tiny village to work off those carbs (ha,ha!).  Pictured above is the farmhouse of the ranch land that became Los Olivos.  Built in 1885, it was modernized and It now serves as an office building.

From there we drove to a new market in Santa Ynez called New Frontiers.  There were no lines, and no empty shelves.  We picked up a few items for dinner this evening...And we filled up the car at Jim's.  We have not seen these prices since we moved from Los Angeles in 2001.

Wishing you all an abundance of Saturday Smiles...Cheers, Ron & Alexandra!

We have recently discovered (thanks, NextDoor) a cottage industry, Pralin Bakery on the Russian Hill portion of Polk Street, a short 10-minute walk from home. A stop to pick up a couple of treats is quickly becoming a habit. Hmmm...perhaps I should give him some ActiveRain love.

Lottie Kendall sounds really good, and I am delighted for you.  We enjoy the drive to Santa Ynez, it feels like a get away.  And since they are small villages, the atmosphere is friendlier that it is here...A

Nina Hollander our gas prices include over a $ of taxes and other tariffs too numerous to mention...The irony is that California has plenty of oil right off our coast!  It never made sense to me.

I love the Farmhouse style.  When were moving to Napa we almost bought a farmouse style home.  We were dissuaded by the distance we would have to travel to the city and other conveniences...Nothing like a wrap around porch.  A

I love both buildings. Very beautiful and well manicured. There is one benefit to the virus. Extraordinary low gas prices. It was 1.26 when I left Arizona and it is 2 something in Nevada. Maybe your gas will stay lower for awhile. When I went thru California I always dreaded needing gas. Generally always 5 plus a gallon.

Sharon Lee I have not seen $5 per gallon here, and we use premium.  Prior to all this it has been ranging from 3.90 to 3..07 in town, which is why we filled up in Santa Ynez...A

What a lovely idea for a Saturday am leisurely drive! Nothing better than a delicious croissant. Years ago I remember there was a french bakery on the coast of Oregon that had the best croissants. Not sure I've had one quite that delicious since.  Lovely little town.....so fun just soaking up the energy and peacefullness in town's like that.

It's so much fun to just pick up and go or break the routine. Now I'd love a chocolate croissant!

Anna Banana Kruchten Arizona's Top Banana! last time we stayed in Portland, there was an exquisite French bakery within walking distance of the hotel.  We loved their croissant.  Los Olivos has a population of a 1000 people, and Santa Ynez is a bit larger with 5000....Everyone is so relaxed and very friendly.  A

Hello Alexandra and Ron - thanks for the mention - the inspiration should be followed by almond croissant, huh?  HaHa - said in my best Brian England impersonation(if I could do such things).

Gas prices have certainly changed a lot in our area although I know they don't compare to most other areas in the country where they are much cheaper.  It has cooled down temperature-wise here today as well.

Hannah Williams thank you for your comment.  And that is precisely why we travel to each market place to determine a brand and marketing strategy.  We would market this area differently, than the little beach hamlet where we live.  Even the gas prices here differ from those in Santa Barbara, where premium is at $3.17 a gallon.

Michael Jacobs our gas prices are full of all sorts of tariffs.  For instance, the stop smoking television ads, I am told, are financed in part by gas taxes, as well as other unrelated to gas campaigns.  We are the highes tpriced gasoline price in the nation (another coo coo stats when we produce so much oil).

Inspiration is also aided by one half of an almond croissant.  Perhaps Brian England would agree.  Of course, Amy. has chocolate and plain, so he would not be restricted to just almond...We came up with a good marketing  plan for a future development after that, and a video.

We are expecting a week's worth of under 70 degrees weather this week and into the next, and with these gas prices it pays for the croissant to take a drive to see how the grapes are doing...A

Morning Alexandra

Our gas prices got down to 1.14, if you wanted to drive about 30 miles you could get it for .99 a gallon.  As of yesterday the price was 1.43.  Not complaining

Yum, almond croissants are a favorite of mine, and I would drive a distance to get a good one, too!. Love you wine country journey and photos Ron and Alexandra Seigel

We've had quie a bit of marine layer recently, although today it thankfully burned off and the sun came out in time for a 1 pm showing at my oceanview Carlsbad Village listing.

I love seeing the gas price prices - I can get regular at one station in Oceanside for $2.31 if I drive about 15 minutes! Haven't used much gas recently though. LOL
