Help!! I am becoming a parent

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Greenville Central

Well for 2 weeks anyway. My 14 Year old nephew is coming to visit me for 2 weeks this summer. The time is getting closer and I am trying to figure out what to do with him. I keep asking him, but in typical Teenager fashion, he keeps telling me, "Whatever."

I am going to take him to his first concert, I know that much. I am sure we will go to the movie one night. My husband and I will take him to dinner a few times and let him try new things that he hasn't with his parents. But that is where it stops...I don't know what to do with a teenager. I remember when I was a teen, but what was cool to do then isn't now.

So I am calling for help from parents out there help me with my 14 year old. If you have any suggestions I would love to have them!

Just remember they know everything and you were never fourteen either in their minds.

If he is a 14 year old male, all you have to do is feed him.  It is amazing how much a young teenager can eat. Good luck to you,

John is exacly correct! Boys like to do active things that they can participate in. I raised 2 of them. If they like sports, take them to some local games. Most malls have game rooms where they have intractive games. If they like to tinker with things, find a broken radio or something they can fix....they might not but it will keep them busy. Find out what they like to do. If you listen to a kid talk about himself for an hour, they will tell you everything they like and don't like, go from their. You will also be the coolest person in the world...teenagers love one thing the most...themselves! And then usually girls or sports, not necessarily in that order. When he says whatever...that is only because he is being polite and not demanding...bet one of the parents is in the background...

Hide the keys for your motorcycles!!!!  You may want to consider covering them, too - to protect the paint from drool.  lol

It's been awhile since I had a 14 year old around. Bet it will be a breeze--movies, concerts, swimming, sports. Oh yes, a few new DVD's---that should work out just fine.

Good Luck! I know you will do fine. I am sure once he gets here he will tell you what he wants to do. I know we will all go riding one night. He will love the bike. Has he ever been on one?

Get kevlar.  Lots of kevlar.  A good, sturdy set of handcuffs and leg irons isn't bad to have around either.

Have fun! :-)
