March 2021 Art Gallery Crawl In South End... And It's Not Virtual!
How wonderful that we are seeing the first signs of a return to some "normalcy" with a "real" art gallery crawl and not a virtual gallery crawl on March 5th and 6th in Charlotte.
Located in Charlotte's trendy South End area, the Dilworth Artisan Station has developed into one of the Queen City's primary destinations for artistic creativity. A 100+ year old building with a rich history, the Dilworth Artisan Station has been a furniture factory, a textile mill, a storage for soldiers' cars during World War II. Dilworth Artisan Station houses studios for 25+ artists who paint, draw, and sculpt every day.
Get To Know Charlotte's Historic South End Neighborhood
Located just south of Charlotte's Upotwn/City Center, Charlotte's South End area was once the center of the city's textile mill industry. But even before that, South End was home to the nation’s first gold rush, which partially inspired the construction the city’s first railroad, leading trains through South End in 1852. In 1982, it housed the Queen City's first industrial park.
Today, the dynamic urban neighborhood features a lively nightlife, numerous craft breweries, laid-back pubs, and a vibrant restaurant scene. 19th century factory buildings have been converted to art galleries, artisan shops, boutiques, etc. and is served by four Lynx light rail stations. Alongside the Lynx line is the Rail Trail, 2.5 miles of walkable, bikable access to Uptown. There are almost 200 shops and restaurants in South End, 82% of which are locally owned. There's also the Atherton Farmers Market which opens on Saturdays.
