Gaithersburg Receives Tree City USA Designation

Arbor Day is April 29, and Gaithersburg is excited to announce that it has been designated as a Tree City USA for the 32nd consecutive year.

We met four national standards to qualify: Having a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, maintaining an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and celebrating Arbor Day with an observance and proclamation. Take the Morris Park Tree Walk to join in the celebration.

This is a City of Gaithersburg, Maryland announcement.

That is a great designation to have and I would definitely prefer to see more trees than buildings.

Dear Roy,

Did not know that about Gaithersburg. Definitely many nice trees there. If you have a temperature display on your car, you can tell cities with trees from cities without trees as your are driving around. Cities with trees can be 5-8 degrees cooler. This is not as noticeable in winter, but helps break the wind. Less money for home owners to spend on cooling and heating.
