Tips To Detect Flaws And Maintain Your Rainwater System

As weird as it may sound, the perfect time to check whether your rainwater system is working well or not is when it rains profusely. It is the only way you will know whether the rainwater is going where it is supposed to go, or all your efforts are going in vain!

If you are planning on buying some new stuff for your rainwater system, check out kouruset.fi for reliable and high-quality products. But before that, you first need to know how to detect flaws and maintain the rainwater system.

When you know what to look for, you can easily understand if there are any leaks or whether the downpipes are clogged, or if the exteriors of your house are getting damaged by malfunctioning of the downpipes. If there is any water damage, whatsoever you can immediately call in the experts.

What should you look for?

  • You will have to look for whether or not water is flowing out of the front edge of the guttering like a cataract
  • The back edge of the guttering is overflowing.
  • The outlet of the downpipe is overflowing or not.
  • Leaky joints of the guttering.
  • Water forming a pool at the base of the downpipe.
  • Leaky downpipe joints.

How to take care of the rainwater system?

  • The rainwater system might be clogged with mosses, pine needles, and more; it is a common phenomenon. In case you find the gutters are clogged, clean them right away.
  • Guttering joints tend to become rusty with time. The erosion can cause the gutter joints to leak. So, by gently replacing the rusty parts with new ones, you can apply a sealant to make sure the system is leaking no more. Use nuts and bolts made of stainless steel to tighten the guttering joints. If you are unable to handle all this on your own, ask for help from the experts.
  • Remember that the downpipes are fitted one into the other in a ‘male into female’ pattern, so a leaking downpipe is not a very common phenomenon. Seals are usually not that crucial. However, a crack can show up due to heavy blockages or some other external factor.
  • If the downpipe does not get into the ground directly, make sure that the water that is overflowing from below the pipe enters the grate and not making the peripheral region of the downpipe wet as this causes erosion and damps the wall incurring damages. The grate must have a brick or concrete structure, raised in such a way that it envelopes the draining area so that water stays restricted within it.
  • Your rainwater system must have an ample number of downpipes. If the guttering system is too long, emptying the water without causing an overflow might be a problem. So, do not make the guttering system too long. Instead, break it up into two or more downpipes so that the water can flow swiftly without overflowing.

Furthermore, there can be a problem with the positioning of the guttering. In that case, you might have to reposition it, and for that, experts are always happy to help.
