WAIKIKI AQURIUM IS OPEN!

Waikiki Aquarium officially reopened to visitors July 1st and offers an excellent opportunity to educate oneself and 'Ohana on the importance of maintaining our priceless environment here in the Hawaiian Archipelago.

As we witness the effects of modernity on our Eco-systems both here in the islands and globally it's important to learn that there are many things we can do right now to mitigate the negative effects of over-fishing, pollution and global warming. What better way to gain perspective than to enjoy the fun educational atmosphere and enlightening experience of a visit to the Waikiki Aquarium.

Come celebrate World's Ocean Month at the Waikiki Aquarium and find out the importance of protecting our oceans from deprivation.

Hi Kimo,  This sounds like an excellent way to remind people of the importance of caring for our envirnoment and everything we interact with.    Thanks for sharing.

Aloha Bob Crane, In Hawaii we feel, perhaps, more acutely the affects of humanities actions toward our environment, especially when it comes to water pollution and over-fishing. The vibrant healthy reefs which once flourished in our coastal regions are nothing like they once were and continue to decline in an alarming manner. Thanks for the comment!

I always enjoy visiting aquariums but I often wonder if the creatures being housed within them are truly enjoying it or if they would rather be somewhere else, haha.

Aloha Brian England, it is a compelling debate whether society should maintain what would be considered wild, animals in captivity. Are they happier and enjoying captivity? Are they even aware they are captive?

Many conservationist believe it is essential to maintain zoos and aquariums in order to educate the population about just how important these creatures are to the sustainability of ALL life on this relatively tiny blue ball, called Earth. Considering the shear magnitude and violence of the Universe, our rather insignificant and remote galaxy and even less impressive solar system, the conversation is moot. Unless, of course, you care a speck about the survival of our species. Unfortunately, it's looking like we will be extinct before we know it, unless one believes there is an omnipotent omnipresence with a secret plan hiding in the wings preparing to swoop in or not, to save us from ourselves or not, based on ones ability to have Faith or not.

Hmm, I guess if all ones needs were being taken care of, food, safe place to live with out the rigors of surviving preoccupying every moment of ones existence, would one feel happier or deprived, I cant speak for a sea slug but I might consider it. Mahalo for the thought provoking comment!
